Violent dolphin deaths [PHOTOS/VIDEO], Over the past several months, dolphins have washed ashore along the
northern Gulf Coast and federal officials said they are looking into the
mysterious deaths.
Authorities are investigating the attacks on dolphins in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
The
Sun Herald reported that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) issued a "heads up" directive on Thursday, putting
officials on alert for an increase in human interaction with dolphins
in the waters across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Authorities
say cases of gunshot wounds, mutilations and other injuries have been
detected in recent months. And on Friday, Scientists from the Institute
for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport went to Deer Island and found a
second dolphin dead with a portion of his jaw missing. Go here to read more and see the photos and video.
